If you still haven’t switched to FASTag, it’s time to act fast! The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that from November 15, 2025, vehicles without FASTag will have to pay double the toll fee at national highway plazas across the country.
This move is aimed at ensuring seamless traffic movement, reducing congestion, and promoting cashless toll collection across India.
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system operated by NHAI. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that automatically deducts toll charges when a vehicle passes through a toll plaza. The amount is directly debited from the linked prepaid account, ensuring faster, contactless payments.
From November 15, 2025, vehicles without an active FASTag will be charged double the applicable toll fee.
The rule applies to all types of vehicles using national highways.
The step aims to discourage cash payments and encourage digital transactions for smoother toll operations.
According to NHAI, despite FASTag being implemented nationwide, a small percentage of drivers still use cash lanes, leading to delays and traffic build-up. By doubling toll charges for non-FASTag vehicles, the government hopes to ensure:
Faster movement at toll plazas
Reduced congestion and emissions
Increased digital efficiency and transparency
You can easily get a FASTag through:
Banks (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Paytm, etc.)
Authorized FASTag agents and toll plazas
Online portals like https://fastag.ihmcl.com
Documents Required:
Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, etc.)
Vehicle owner’s photograph
Once activated, FASTag can be recharged online through UPI, net banking, or wallets.
🚗 No waiting at tolls – automatic deduction of fees.
💵 Saves fuel and time – no need to stop for cash transactions.
🧾 Digital receipts – full transparency in toll payments.
🌿 Eco-friendly – reduces paper and fuel wastage.
Effective Date: November 15, 2025
Penalty: Double toll charges for non-FASTag vehicles
Applies To: All vehicles using National Highways
