There are going to be some changes in the rules of UPI from September 15, which will have a direct impact on the users of apps like Phonepe, Paytm or Gpay. Let’s know what changes are going to happen?
If you use PhonePe, Paytm, or Google Pay (GPay) for daily transactions, here’s an important update you cannot miss. Starting 15th September 2025, major changes are set to take place in UPI and digital payment rules. These updates will impact how you transfer money, manage your wallet, and use payment services.
Let’s break down the key changes and how they will affect millions of users across India.
1️⃣ Transaction Limits Revised
The NPCI has revised daily UPI transaction limits.
While the default daily limit remains ₹1 lakh, specific categories such as education, healthcare, and high-value utility bills may allow higher limits.
2️⃣ Inactive UPI IDs to Be Deactivated
If you haven’t used your UPI ID for more than 1 year, it will be automatically deactivated.
Users must ensure they keep their accounts active with at least one transaction within the year.
3️⃣ Wallet KYC Mandatory
Wallets linked to Paytm, PhonePe, and GPay will now require full KYC verification.
Without KYC, users may face restrictions on wallet balance, transfers, and cashback usage.
4️⃣ New Safety Features Introduced
To prevent fraud, enhanced verification methods like device binding and OTP authentication will be mandatory for high-value transactions.
Suspicious transactions will trigger instant alerts for user confirmation.
5️⃣ Auto-Pay Rule Updates
For recurring payments such as OTT subscriptions, mobile recharges, and insurance, auto-debit rules have been modified.
Users must now authenticate first-time mandates above ₹500 via OTP.
Check Your KYC Status – Complete KYC if pending.
Update UPI Apps – Ensure you have the latest version installed.
Review Auto-Pay Settings – Re-confirm active subscriptions.
