The government has once again issued a final reminder for all taxpayers: if you fail to complete your PAN–Aadhaar linking before December 31, your Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be deactivated.
This means your PAN will no longer be valid for financial transactions — a major disruption for banking, investments, property deals, and income tax filings.
If you haven’t linked your Aadhaar with your PAN yet, now is the time to do it.
The government introduced this rule to:
Eliminate duplicate and fraudulent PAN cards
Improve tax compliance
Streamline verification for financial systems
Strengthen identity authentication across banking & taxation
Linking helps maintain a cleaner, safer financial ecosystem.
If you ignore the December 31 deadline, your PAN will be deactivated, and you may face:
A deactivated PAN cannot be used for ITR filing — leading to penalties.
Banks may freeze or restrict:
Opening new accounts
High-value deposits/withdrawals
Loan processing
Credit card applications
You won’t be able to invest or redeem:
Mutual funds
Stocks
Fixed deposits
Insurance policies
Buying/selling property or any transaction above ₹50,000 requires an active PAN.
Non-compliance can also attract financial penalties.
This makes linking your PAN to Aadhaar not just important — but urgent.
Follow these quick steps to complete the linking:
Visit: https://www.incometax.gov.in
Click on “Link Aadhaar” under the Quick Links section
Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and name
Verify using OTP sent to your registered mobile
Pay the applicable fee (if required)
Submit
You will receive a confirmation message upon successful linking.
Text the following to 567678 or 56161:
UIDPAN <Space> Aadhaar Number <Space> PAN Number
Example:
UIDPAN 123456789012 ABCDE1234F
If linking after deadlines or previous failures, you may need to pay a fee (as per government rules).
Payment is done online on the Income Tax portal.
