The Government of India has announced the implementation of new Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, effective from today, 2025. These changes impact a wide range of goods and services, making some items cheaper while others may see a slight increase in price.
The GST Council, in its latest meeting, decided to rationalize the tax structure to reduce the burden on consumers and boost economic growth in key sectors.
✔️ Household Items – Several daily-use products have become more affordable.
✔️ Consumer Electronics – Select gadgets and appliances have seen revised rates.
✔️ Food & Beverages – Certain packaged food items now fall under lower GST slabs.
✔️ Luxury & Premium Products – High-end items continue to attract higher rates.
According to the revised GST structure, here’s what will cost less from today:
Packaged food items (biscuits, ready-to-eat meals, dairy products)
Small kitchen appliances (mixers, juicers, toasters)
Footwear priced below ₹1,000
Medicines and essential healthcare products
Fertilizers and farming equipment
While relief has been provided in essential categories, some goods and services have seen an increase in tax rates:
Branded garments above ₹5,000
High-end electronics and luxury appliances
Premium cosmetics and personal care products
Five-star hotel stays and luxury services
The GST Council stated that the revisions are aimed at:
Boosting demand for essential and affordable goods
Supporting domestic industries by rationalizing rates
Increasing government revenue from premium categories
Balancing inflation while providing relief to common households
Consumers are likely to feel immediate relief in essential purchases, especially food items and daily-use products. However, spending on luxury goods and premium services may see a slight rise.
