UIDAI Warns People Against Plastic, Laminated Aadhaar Cards

Plastic Aadhaar smart cards are often not usable as the QR code might dysfunctional during such unauthorised printing at some vendor/shop

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said on Wednesday that the Plastic (PVC) Aadhaar smart cards are often not usable as the QR code might dysfunctional during such unauthorised printing at some vendor/shop. Besides, there could be a possibility of sharing Aadhaar details (personal sensitive demographic information) without informed consent with some devious elements.

UIDAI on Wednesday said that Aadhaar letter or its cutaway portion or downloaded versions of Aadhaar on ordinary paper or mAadhaar are perfectly legitimate and citizens should not long for the so-called Aadhaar smart card as it might make them fall prey to the ploys of some unscrupulous elements who illegitimately charge anywhere between Rs.50 to Rs.300 or more.

The UIDAI has asked people to keep away from such elements/shops/vendors. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO, UIDAI said, “So-called Aadhaar Smart card is totally unnecessary and a waste as during such printing its QR code often becomes dysfunctional. The Aadhaar card or the downloaded Aadhaar card printed on ordinary paper or mAadhaar is perfectly valid for all kind of uses.”

“If a person has a paper Aadhaar card, there is absolutely no need to get his/her Aadhaar card laminated or obtain a plastic Aadhaar card or so called smart Aadhaar card by paying money. There is no concept such as smart or plastic Aadhaar card,” added Dr. Pandey.

In case a person loses his Aadhaar card, he can download his Aadhaar card free of cost from https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. The print out of the downloaded Aadhaar card, even in black and white form, is as valid as the original Aadhaar letter sent by UIDAI. There is absolutely no need to print it on plastic/PVC card or get it laminated.

CEO, UIDAI advised people to be watchful for the protection of their privacy and recommended not to share their Aadhaar number or personal details to unauthorized agencies for getting it laminated, or printed on plastic card.

UIDAI has cautioned unauthorized Agencies not to collect Aadhaar information from general public for printing of Aadhaar card as collecting such information or unauthorized printing of Aadhaar card or aiding such persons in any manner amounts to a criminal offence punishable with imprisonment under Indian Penal Code and Aadhaar Act, 2016.

  1. if it is so then why the heell permisson and licences given to such aadhar centres by teh government (they are using govt seal of three lions with satyamev jayate which means it is permitted by the GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDIA!
IS UIDAI NOT AWARE THAT HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF SUCH CENTRES ARE OPERATING OFFICIALLY AND ISSUEING PLASTIC CARDS. WHY TEH HELL YOU ARE ALLOWING SUCH CENTRS TO OPERATE WHO CHARGE THE CITIZENS WHO WANT SUCH CARDS RS 80/-.
HOW COME NO UIDAI TAKE U TURN WHEN SUCH AADHAR CENTRES ARE RUNNING OFFICIALLY AT VARIOUS NOOKS AND CORNERS IN MUMBAI CITY AS I AM A MUMBAITE.
JUST STOP THIS NAUTANKI OR ROLL BACK THE AADHAR CARD.. THE UIDAI AND THIS GOVERNMENT HAVE MADE OUR CITIZENS LIFE MISERABLE BY CONTINUING WITH THIS STUPID AADHAR CAD WHICH WAS STARTED BY THE EARLIER STUPID UPA AND NOW MADE MANDATORY BY ANOTHER STUPIDS NDA. STOP THIS NONSENSE.

    1. Absolutely correct. The government allowed most agencies to lure people to get the cards made by money. This is again a big scam for which the UIDAI as well as the govt is responsible. Make money and scoot. Now they come out with all sorts of stories. Sad that our country does not have a system or have strict controls over such things.

    2. Dear IDIOT,
Have you heard a name of USA? or you must google about Social Security Number. The concept of making AADHAR compulsory is very important. If you study it in deep you will understand why it’s so important.
The government never told citizens to go and print AADHAR at those centers. Those centers are nothing but the printing shops.
I never had a hard copy of AADHAR, still, I don’t have. But I have used my AADDHAR at several places. No one asked me for a hard copy. I have mAadhar and that’s enough.
People have this habit to act on rumors and some business minded people used that.

      1. You are right some stupid people with little knowledge do not know the value and benefit of AADHAR CARD to self as well as to govt. These people wants fancy things without going in its demerits and than blame Govt. Such type of person never thing positively they are Janani of Negativity…….God bless them.

        1. your coining the word stupid is highly objectionable. out of hundred twenty crore people nearly uidai issued eighty crore aadhar cards. please tell me how many of them are literates ? don’t coin such terms accusing including the literates. may be out of fear of loosing the card, many people have resorted to have laminated version as they felt they were most important documents. uidai has advised them long time back about this menace . they also slept . now every one has waken up because many times the plastic laminated card has failed. this is the reality .

      2. I think you are citizen of usa that’s why you are saying that nobody asked for hardcopy of aadhaar I agree adhaar is number only but everybody in india asking for hardcopy of adhaar

      3. Hundreds of ADHAAR cards were not delivered by post to the people who registered. None questioned UIDAI authorities . And therefore , people who did not receive original cards by post were forced to go to such an arrangements.

Another big blunder of ADHAAR card is that the template does not match either with PAN CARD, PF ACCOUNTS , BANK RECORDS, LIC etc and other place and you are made to run from pilar to post to get it corrected. I have gone through such an ordeal for PF withdrawal . The system is ruthless and anti-people and none will listen to you as the method is system dependent

        1. I fully agree with you sir.
crores of pages of paper have been wasted in submitting Aadhar card copy to every tom dick and harry be it a land line, mobile, bank account, credit card debit card, etc. Tragedy is that it has to be given again and again. See RBI guidelines. Aadhar Card Number should suffice.

        1. Hi,
Social security Number and Unique identification number(Aadhar) is similar in the sense thatit serves the purpose of identification. Aadhar is not any scheme like social security. Aadhar number gets mapped to various schemes to avoid misuse by beneficiaries and duplication. Without aadhar, same individual can get twice subsidy and this, is stopped now for the betterment of our country

      4. Agreed totally. I also don’t have a hard copy of my Adhaar Card and I also use the M-Adhaar for every purpose. But I have one question on the same. If this is purely a govt of India undertaking then how the hell small centres across the country are gaining access to UIDAI to get new registrations for Adhaar Card or edit them? If it is from the govt and this is a severe security issue, then the govt centres should only have the access on it and for that, no 3rd party nonsensical people should be given permission to do any sort of things for the same. Kindly answer me.

      5. I have applied for an Aadhar card but am yer to receive the hard copy.I have a copy ,but cant link it as every one is asking for the hard copy.
Soon the joke may come true that Mr Modi was not allowed to use the Sulabh Shauchalaya as he didnt have an Aadhar Card and had to suffer the cosequences.

      6. Oh plz, I request u to plz visit to Citi bank, ICICI Bank or Axis bank n try to use aadhar printout, they will say , plz show the plastic cards , I told them several time that anyone can get that stupid laminated plastic card from this same print outs, but they refused to listen. It happened at Pune Citi bank.

    3. You are really IDIOT as well as some stupid people with little knowledge do not know the value and benefit of AADHAR CARD to self as well as to govt. These people wants fancy things without going in its demerits and than blame Govt. Such type of person never thing positively they are Janani of Negativity…….God bless them.

Such people wants to change originality of things with out thinking of Merits and demerits. They can do any thing for becoming fancy…… Such Idiot even can change there Face…Hairs…..Pin there Ears……etc. But they do not know that Originality is Never changed.

      1. Aadhar is a useful tool for increasing efficiency of the government. Its existence can not be questioned by any responsible person. However the project is stupendous and has no parallel in the world in view of the crores of cards to be issued. Defects in organising the project would be there. This is quite normal. So efforts have to be made to take remedial measures.

        1. Fine but that then UADAI should supply smart cards themselves to one and all hand to hand and not by post. Secondly, no one should demand a copy of Aadhar card.

    4. Hello Mr
      *************************************************************
Today you are opposing Aadhar card and tomottow you’ll oppose Passport as well. There was a time when passport details were written by hand then they changed to printing then they started barcode also. Why don’t you oppose that?
You have to understand problems and improvements come after time only and this info came only when there were many problem arised due to malfunction of barcode scanning.
If you want to oppose then oppose about pollution check because it is done with no proper equipment and training of manpower. On top of that prices are different place to place.

    5. Good sir first they said make aadhar card compulsary then they say only aadhar card is valid after that they want to make money they started center with smart card. How long will the paper copy will remain proper in pocket . Man u place there is no value of aadhar card like passport office etc. After then try hey will say that aadhar card wont be valid for our identity. Is this joke . Or the officer you have ty there are corrupted n want to make money n harass the people.

    6. Govt should have provided plastic card with secure chips like in credit card. Using some of the Rs.700/= given to Adani Group as some relief

    7. Hi !
I got my Aadhaar Smart-card printed, with due prior biometric & SMS verification, at an e-Seva Center run by the Corporation of the city where I live. The QR code has been working just fine. The official fee a year ago for this service was a nominal Rs.30/-. A simple advice : if you need a smart-card, go to such recognised centres, avoid touts, spread the awareness; over a period of time, these touts or middlemen will wither away themselves due to lack of business !
Let us not blame/ridicule the UIDAI / Aadhaar team instead. It’s an awesome initiative and a laudable effort on the part of the Aadhaar team – an identity which has been long overdue for our country and for all of us citizens.
      Jai Hind !

    8. My wife’s card was updated to include the latest mobile phone number last year (April or so) and whenever, I check for the status of issue of this modified card, it only says the card is updated and under print. And till then, you your e-aadhaar card. In such a case of abject failure on the part of UIDAi, why should I not use the card printed in any shop after downloading the e=aadhaar card?? Look at your inaction and then warn the public!!!!
      Update Status
“Your Aadhaar has been generated. While your Aadhaar is being printed and posted to you, please download eAadhaar.

    9. I took printout of adhaar to my bank where he categorically deny to accept in till I produce original adhaar ( laminated one)

Till time I did not have that, so I entered into arguments with my banker’s for around 10 minutes

After than all my friend circle suggest, to make plastic adhaar to satisfy these minds

So better you educate Ur people first ( govt machinery). Rather to educate us everytime

    10. I totally disagree with this view. The debit cards / credit cards all are in plastic ,handy & more convenient for carrying when travelling etc. The original paper Aadhar certificate is such a long sheet ,which is most difficult to carry esp. when we are on the move. Also the original Aadhar certificate designed must have been short with matters on either side, then keeping in valets should have been very easy. So practically ,we are much happy & to carry whenever we travel with laminated Aadhar cards. By this ,the life of cards will be much longer. Hence my advise is to allow citizen to have short laminated Aadhar cards ,with all matters on either sides.

  2. YOU ARE RIGHT BUT SOME ORGANISATION SAY FOR ORIGINAL AADHAR CARD SHOW THEN WHAT IS THIS PROBLEM SOLUTION, PLEASE WRITE ME.

    1. You are right some stupid people with little knowledge do not know the value and benefit of AADHAR CARD to self as well as to govt. These people wants fancy things without going in its demerits and than blame Govt. Such type of person never thing positively they are Janani of Negativity…….God bless them.

    2. Whenever we give our proof to some one He wants to verify the same with the Original, So always show them only your Original Documents or card and not to hand over to any one.

    3. Put Aadhar number and authenticate biomatrically. That’s enough.
It is not asked during passport application. Where more you expect that will be asked.

    4. True. My bank accepts the Aadhar downloaded from the website for linking the account to Aadhar but not as a proof of address. They want a copy of the laminated Aadhar for proof of address. Quite ridiculous.

  3. The Paper card gets spoiled when carried in the wallet or even in back pack. Now common man does not use brief case. UIDAI should find solution to this problem.

      1. At least 50% of the population does not have easy access to get print done from the web site. The may be idiots by your standard but they are Indian illiterate citizens.Old citizen’s biometrics don’t match, smaller towns machines don’t work. We yet have to get UuSA work standard. Give solutions for Indian working.

      2. Take a new print out in normal AT sheet ? I am a hard core supporter of Aadhar.. but they should provide it in a durable methode.. taking an a4 sheet printout with u is not easy as it can get spoiled easily.. it’s should be in a water resistant form.. that’s why people are laminating it.. now I realise that some idiots are sitting on top of UIDAI.. instead of coming with some solution they want to create prpvle

  4. I HAVE ALREADY LAMINATED TH E AADHAAR CARDS OF MYSELF & FAMILY MEMBERS.
CAN I TAKE PRINT OUT FROM YOUR WEBSITE again ? PLEASE CONFIRM.

  5. The Paper card gets spoiled when carried in the wallet or even in back pack. Now common man does not use brief case. UIDAI should find solution to this problem

  6. Yes. Yesterday tried to change address for existing mobile number 9481628766.

BSNL demanded the full sheet of AADHAAR with Xerox.

But, I have already laminated the lower portion, delayed 2 years back.

Cud I get a printout with the NEW ADDRESS.

8386 5492 0042 is my AADHAAR issued at Banaswadi, Bangalore.

    Kindly guide me.

    1. Do not expose your Aadhar no publicly, go to uidai site and download your duplicate copy. A utp send to your registered mobile no to confirm than you will able to download.

    2. U can change the addree thru online in uidai website by attaching the scan copy current address proof ..the procedure is given in the website…follow it…

  7. Biased statement
    Wrong Statement by UIDAI chief
Csc vle have purchased printers in 65000 when they were authorised to print plastic adhar card.
Who n how would they be compensated.
Will adhar dept take there machines back.

  8. Well friend It is better that you download from net and store it in a pen drive. Whenever required you can get a print out.

  9. How can lamination be a crime ! It doesn’t need acces to Aadhar database !!!!
I understand creating smart card needs access to the database as well as reprinting on smart card might damage QR code. I guess people are unnecessarily accessing the Aadhar database for printing, reprinting on smart card etc which is putting unnecessary pressure on their servers so they are manufacturing this public haste !

  10. # Yes there is a possibility of what UIDAI said !
    # To avoid confusion, it is better to use transperant covers (a bit thinner & with comfortably closed – better if UIDAI provides) to insert Adhaar Card of full size !
    # I think it is not fair to comment or complain on Everything !

  11. uidai har din niyam alag alag kar raha hai. uidai ka jo engineer vai hai, usko wahase hata dijiye, koi bhi jyada dimak wala engineer lagaiye.

  12. uidai walo up kyu aisa khel khel raha hai? pehele to pvc card printer bechke csc walo(yeto central govt. ka ek branch hai) crore pupay ka business karliya. ab bol raha hai ye nihi chalega? kyu aisa khel khel raha hai? jara spast kijiye…..

  13. Has it been informed when it was issued by UIDAI. Generally people try to keep it under laminated for safeguarding it. Keeping paper can get spoiled. Hence UIDAI should have find solution for it and reissue the same to all who have got Aadhar card.

  14. Its better to have smart cards .you make a chip card where you can store your pan catd details Aadhar card details and driving licence and gas consumer no and etc which is related to govt .
And it will be good to carry one card insted of carrying all documents

  15. Already laminated but you may leave the upper portion which was not laminate so you can use when QR code is require from the upper portion, no worry

  16. All the aadhar of my family not received so far for the followings :

    Name Aadhar No
    Subrata Banerjee 556578316751
    Archana Banerjee 719475246570
    Ishika Banerjee 654440790970

Please send me reason why our aadhar card not yet delivered by you so far.

    Thanks,
    Subrata Banerjee

  17. The passport offices don’t accept the downloaded Aadhar cards from https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
They rejected my in person application stating I need to present the original Aadhar card issued. I did try to explain the official that this is as valid as an original copy. However, my perusal fell on dumb ears and I had to rebook an appointment with original aahdar card.
Now if Govt. offices are not respecting the rules how can we be assured that private offices will approve it.

  18. Why doesn’t UIDAI offer credit card sized and shaped Aadhar cards, if necessary at a premium? With so many others like credit cards, debit cards, driving licenses already in that shape it’ll be easier to carry an Aadhaar card

  19. My Aadhar contains lot of mistakes while typing, like wrong address, etc. Address is wrongly mentioned, doo no. is wrongly mentioned. How can it be rectified. Once I tried to get it rectified through agent and provided the supporting
documents like Property extracts. I didnt get the corrected Aadhar Card but got the reply “documents provided are
not correct”. What documents I have to provide, please inform me.

  20. All these are teething problem in any developing nation, while it is important that or Govt., takes action against people/firms who are involved in printing such plastic cards (Smart Cards – Surprised to see a word smart without knowing how smart is it?).

Printing on the plastic card needs a down load through the OTP authorisation which comes to the users registered phone number and once it is printed the card holder in his joy of new found freedom leaves his larger freedom on the computer of the service provider, not knowing the impact, not knowing how to get it deleted etc.,

To over come these, UIDAI should crack down those into printing un-authorisedly, and if it has authorised any person/firm it should make a fool proof process that the info is not left behind even in the cache of the system printing it. Or better issue a non-destructible card so that people will stop craving for those and avoid mistakes.

  22. IN THE ABSENCE OF ADHAR NO MOST OF PEOPLE OF ASSAM ARE NOT ALLOWED BY E P F COMMISSION OF N E REGION. FURTHER, A VERY FEW BANKS (LIMITED ONLY LIKE ALLAHABAD BANK) ARE ISSUING ADHAR APPLICATION FORMS TO THEIR CUSTOMER ONLY. ON THE OTHER HAND BANKS AND L P G AGENCY ASKED THE CUSTOMER TO SUBMIT THE ADHAR NO BEFORE MARCH 31, 2018. TO THIS CONTEXT MY EARNEST REQUEST HOW TO GET MY ADHAR CARD IN ASSAM BEFORE THE SCHEDULED TIME AND WHERE I CAN GET. SUBMITTED FOR KIND RESPONSE. REGARDS.

  23. Dear all , replied above, you are all (who negatively commented and most particularly who have abused the most respected modiji), government centres are also running even today, why the hell you ******* went and paid to the private centres? Because you are all educated *****. And moreover, lamination cards are not issued by the centres unless the citizens ask for that. Where ever you go and give the details, the original Adhar card will come only from respective government office. So, there is no question of abusing the government authorities or the ruling parties. You should become aware. You are talking about Adhar card, but you are taking money from the candidates at the time elections and vote. This is utter *******. So, before spelling anything one should think thousand and decide which is whose mistake.

  24. These agency download the Aadhar info directly. Which means Dr.Oandey and party have given them permission and now make hue and cry.
Paper print out do not even last for a day. Let govt give us permanent solution else stop creating problems for us.

  25. Adhar has definitely advantages that are not obvious to people in general. This are basic step to protect citizens against many things.

  26. I have downloaded my aadhar card. However, while opening file it is asking password. How to generate password. Pl guide

  27. OK, do you think the Aadhar card delivers in the current format is durable and somehow harsh conditions it undergoes with most of card holders? Provide Aadhar Cards as a smart card with build in chips and enable two way authentication at the minimum. I personally advocate to use block chain technology to secure the Aadhar data. Please resorts to laminate it is due to it’s current poor quality of delivery to the end users. Please think about it.

  28. The problem here is not the importance of Aadhar. I think the importance is greater than ever before. Its a great and necessary initiative. The sad thing here is the lack of preparedness, lack of thinking ahead on what people will face as an issue. A great network and fluid processes to collect taxes across the huge population is functioing well because money is being received. When its about things like aadhar the common man suffers – the agencies say they are govt. authorised, the passport office and many others insist on the aadhar card and do not accept maadhar on the ground level. It does not help enough if the top beaurocrats agree between themselves a process and a standard – it is alsio their job to make sure this agreed process is actually happening. We as a nation fail to dislodge these beaurocrats who are incompetent and they as officers fail to make change work at the ground level. It is changing slowly. Aadhar is a very good initiative and I hope it succeeds fully

  29. Aadhar is a good concept…..print your aadhar cards yourself and in my opinion getting it laminated should not be a problem, I laminated my aadhar card (the cut off portion) when it first came out some years ago…and have used it for various verification purposes ever since and I have never had any problems using a laminated card.
But I would like to suggest that people don’t go around trying to get a smart card…then you expose your confidential info to the people doing the printing…..download and print it yourselves and then get it laminated….in this case the aadhar database is not accessed at all…
Cheers and all the luck to all….:-)

  30. The aadhar cards for our family of three were issued several years back and at the time of issue the terms and
conditions of the issue or instructions for its maintenance were issued by the govt agency. Now the agency
is coming with all sorts of communications just to confuse the community. The aadhar card has to be protected
from wear and tear and govt did not clarify on this point at the time of issue. Today by warning people against
plastic aadhar cards the govt is not doing the right thing. They should have isued the aadhar card like the
passport with a definite validity period with renewal facility when peoples age brings in changes in their image
and the man behind aadhar Mr Nandan Nikelani is responsible for not designing the system for the benefit of
aadhar card holders. If the govt can issue passport and give the issue to TCS they should also convert all existing
cards into passport like booklets without loss of time. Does the Govt has the guts to handle this project …
if so the govt should give this job to Mr Nandan nikelani and ask him to put his aadhar card into the passport
model to get away from all kinds of hassles. If they do this, all kinds of duplciate and triplicate aadhar cards
will get detected and the govt can cancel them to give this system some kind of authenticity. PM Modi should
personally handle this redesigning job of aadhar card into passport models.

  31. Jaha par without laminated Aadhar Card mangte hai kya vaha par QR code scanner hota hai ….aur uski jrurat hoti hai….
Bar code nahi hai to kya check karne wale ke pass bar code scanner hota hai……jab nahi hota hai to wo mangta kyo hai……. jab aapke pas facility hi nahi hai ………….

  32. I have also made a smart card of my aadhar card because of full date of birth by giving thumb imression st aadhar center. Is that mean my aadhar card at risk ? If yes than what should i do ?

  33. If the government /UIDAI stopping all these think then why the **** person issuing the plastic driving license, PAN card and RC book of the vehicle why? And what’s the problem in PVC card and PVC card is making through the enrollment number only after downloading everything is same but why these guys are stopping the PVC card.

    Regards
    Muniram

  34. UIADI, you are a ******* ******. This is such an important document . Why you can not have smart cards distribution center after registration. Let people collect smart card on designated date from designated place against Aadhar registration and thumb verification that guy is one who is registered. No exceptions. In case of loss , police report is required and only after verification, duplicate to be issued. Id again loss, put heavy fine . For address registration, let guy gi to local police station who should be authorised to change after verification that guy is staying there

  35. If so than GOI should also conduct a voting for AADHAR Card necessity during next election using separate EVM to get correct feedback of our citizens in democratic way? This would be an example for by the people and For the people…

  36. I don’t have a hard copy of my Adhaar Card and I also use the M-Adhaar for every purpose.

  37. Respected Dr. Ajay Bushan Pandey Ji,

Sir, We The Citizens of India specially Bank, Insurance, Credit Card, and other such account holders are getting continuous reminders and calls from these agencies to upload our Aadhar card nos before 31-3-2018.
On the other hand your good office has published in News papers that a sixteen digit security code for one each for these agencies can be used by each aadhar card holder to secure ones personal information.

Now, sir please issue a press note or a Gazette order guiding citizens whether to give our aadhar nos before the code system is introduced or After.

The Bankers and credit card companies are warning account holders of BLOCKING OUR ACCOUNTS OFF transactions.
    We are in a DILEMA,
Kindly do the needful at the earliest and oblige.
    Regards,
    Subramani

  39. You are absolutely wrong. Last month when I show my Aadhar paper format the Chennai Air port security staff refused to accept it!
